Do you want better relationships? To go for that dream job you want? To exercise more? To eat better? To manage your emotions? To sleep more deeply? It all starts with self-love.
The concept of ‘loving yourself’ has a reputation of being selfish and cheesy. Neither are true. In fact, loving yourself is standing up and owning the fact that you care about your wellbeing and happiness, because only when you love yourself, do all the other things fall into place.
The truth is, we live in a culture where we look for happiness in the wrong places. We’re looking for it in the promotion, by winning the lottery, meeting the perfect partner or by being more attractive. The list is endless, and not only can these things take time, but most of them are out of our control and might never happen.
The counter argument of course is that these things bring us joy, which is true, but it’s only temporary, it doesn’t last. Pretty soon we are chasing the next big thing that we think will make us happy.
This is where self-love comes in. Self-love is self-acceptance, it’s removing the judgement and punishment we inflict on ourselves. Creating a positive mindset to reduce stress, anxiety and depression and invite optimism into our lives, resulting in healthy behavioural changes, such as getting out of your comfort zone, increased exercise and a healthy diet.
Happiness is something we all deserve, and with self-love, you can achieve it.
